'How does making participate in the recuperation and recognition of embodied knowledge?'
This statement by artist Ann Hamilton reflects the fundamental importance of the process underlying my practice in evoking memories, hidden voices or individual concerns of people and places that echo in the history of a site and exist in the realms of the self. The Woven Line evolved in response to the exploration of site as a place of introspection and excavation. Founded upon the intimate relationship between artistic production and human psychology The Woven Line forms a language woven through the symbolic, reflecting personal experience and the unravelling of identity in mythological terms. Codified as feminine and evocative of the female form, the woven structures question the distinction between woman immortalised as object and body as opposed to something imbued with soul. |
